Tim Ryan, Where Are You?

Although I disagree with the policies of Missouri Senator Claire McCaskill (D) and Pennsylvania Senator Arlen Specter (D), I respect them for having the guts to hold a town hall meeting on health care. I find it sickening that the Congressmen we pay to represent us in Washington DC are refusing to hold town halls on this crucial issue of health care.

According to news reports, a total of 67% of our Congressmen in Washington are NOT holding town halls on health care. Of our local Congressmen here in Ohio, Tim Ryan (D), John Boccieri (D), and Charlie Wilson (D) have all refused or have yet to schedule any town halls.

We don't pay our Congressmen to sit around on their recess and do nothing. We pay for them to represent OUR interests in Washington. Like poll after poll has shown, support for Obama-Care, as I like to call it, is hitting new lows each and every day. If our Congressmen held a town hall, perhaps they would have a better grasp of the concerns of Americans when it comes to HR3200.

I simply would like to know why our Congressmen, especially Tim Ryan in the 17th District-OH, are refusing to hold a town hall on health care. What the 67% of Congressmen refusing to hold a town hall , whether it be a Republican or Democrat, lack is a backbone. McCaskill, Specter, and Cardin (D) from Maryland have the guts to stand up and give their honest answers to the questions of honest Americans. Kudos to them for that!

During this August recess, I believe every Congressmen, from each side of the aisle, should schedule at least one town hall meeting on this health care debate. Congressmen like Tim Ryan, John Boccieri, and Charlie Wilson are likely going to support health care legislation, but perhaps they would think twice about it if they heard the concerns of the voters in the Mahoning Valley and throughout Eastern Ohio, where senior citizens comprise a fairly large chunk of the population. Who knows, it could cost them in 2010.
