I am sure the local media and some local columnists in the Valley's two newspapers will be excited about this news and put the nail in the coffin of Jim Traficant's campaign before it even begins, but not so fast my friends. This November's election has nothing to do with what subcommittee Tim Ryan serves on in Washington, it is about whether Tim Ryan is the best voice in Washington for the Mahoning Valley. Personally, I do not believe he is. Over the last few years, Tim Ryan has moved further and further to the left in a district, that despite being of the solid-blue variety, is much more of the center-right variety when compared to San Francisco or most urban districts across America.
Let's get real here folks, this appointment does nothing to solve our number one problem in our area, which is bringing private business to the Mahoning Valley to create jobs. Anyone hoping the spending of the Federal Government is going to get us out of this economic recession we have been in since the 1970s is just plain silly. This area has voted Democrat for decades and what have we got in return for such blind loyalty, not all that much.
With the Democrats poised to lose the House this November, do you really think this appointment will change things all that much here in the area, I sure don't.
What say you?

Yesterday, Congressman Tim Ryan was appointed to the House Defense Subcommittee, one of the more powerful subcommittees a Representative could serve on in Washington. It seems to me that this appointment was saved for a Democrat that may be in for a tough reelection fight this November. Knowing Tim Ryan is very high on Nancy Pelosi and the Democrat's list, they did not want to take any chances and gave this appointment to Tim Ryan because they know he is in for a fight against Jim Traficant this November.I am sure the local media and some local columnists in the Valley's two newspapers will be excited about this news and put the nail in the coffin of Jim Traficant's campaign before it even begins, but not so fast my friends. You decry the Democrats for having blind loyalty and nothing being shown for it, yet you are endorsing a Democrat for the 17th District. You realize the importance of the committee that Ryan has been selected for, yet you deride it and say it wont help private sector. Can I remind you one of the biggest defense contractors is Haliburton a PRIVATE sector business. Most government contracts for defense go to private sector businesses and innovators. Finally, and there is much more to debate, you say that Tim Ryan is not the voice for the region yet again, you support Trafficant who will speak volumes, yet have no voice as a political paria that no fellow Congressmen will want to touch with a ten foot pole.

|87.118.88.xxx |2010-05-14 08:01:47 FredThe thing I enjoy most about coming to this blog is seeing all the grown men post under anonymous names because they are too scared to attach their real name to their post. Why don't you toughen up ytownredux or do you want to remain hidden cause you are too scared?!?!
About that Moadus, obviously that is a question you ask Moadus not Metzinger.... duh! Maybe he grew up his whole life as a Democrat and wanted to run as one, could that ever occur to you.
Just because you are a conservative doesn't make you a Republican.

You are as anonymous with your name as I was with mine, but you gotta admit, mine was much more colorful than either of our real names. I guess you tried to make a small point here, so I agree with you, not all conservatives are republican, but not all democrats are liberals. I guess that does it for our public service announcements, makes me feel much more enlightened, thank you Fred.

If you want to know why Dan Moadus ran as a Democrat, then by all means go ahead and ask him. God forbid any conservatives identify themselves as Democrats in the Mahoning Valley.

|63.224.12.xxx |2010-05-25 21:05:21 Nonsocialist - NonsocialistI suspect that both the recent BHO visit to the Valley and Ryan's appointment were political paybacks. Ryan's loyalties have been to the Democratic-Socialist agenda, and not to the concerns of his constituents.
Specifically, Ryan's votes for tax increases for all that use electricity (Cap and Trade), higher health Care premiums, a dangerous explosion in the Federal debt, and innumerable pork projects were all opposed to the interests of his constituents.
It is time for the professional politicians, like Ryan, to get a real job and stop destroying America.
The question for every voter considering voting for Ryan or any Democratic-Socialist is this:
How close to the brink of destruction do you want America to go?

Lets be honest, does the hypothical election of Traficant really solve the same problems you listed above? I highly doubt it because Traficant wants to bring more manufacturing jobs back to the area from industries that do not exsist anymore.
Just to say it again, electing Traficant would be an embarrassment to the area and would not help us at all. We don't need a traveling circus to represent us, so Traficant can wage his "war" against the government for putting him in jail. That is all he wants, he can care less about us.
