People need to realize that Elton John is one of the greatest musical performers of all time and that he was playing in a venue with just 7,000 seats. There was no Elton John concert in Cleveland, Akron, or Pittsburgh, so the 6 million people within an hours drive of downtown Youngstown were all vying for just 7,000 seats. Of course the event will sell out in no time!
According to WKBN.com, there was 12,000 people online at 10am trying to purchase the 7,000 tickets. Knowing that, well over 5,000 people were denied the ability to purchase tickets to the event at the 10am open time. Those 5,000 went off all over the Internet and made it seem as though it was impossible to purchase tickets, which was not the case.
I do not know about you, but this is a good problem to have. We brought in a first class act to Youngstown with ticket prices ranging from $39-$139 and it sold out in just thirty minutes. Covelli Centre Director Eric Ryan can use that tidbit of information when trying to attract other major acts to the Covelli Centre in the future. If we can sell out a Elton John show with those ticket prices, I truly believe we can sell out any major concert that comes to town.
Like the title says, you are damned if you do sell out to Covelli Centre and damned if you don't. For whatever reason, you will never be able to please the Mahoning Valley. This area will always find something to complain about. It is unfortunate everyone that wanted to get tickets couldn't, but the demand for this event greatly outweighed the supply of seats at the Covelli Centre.

The title speaks to my reaction after hearing valley residents complain that the Elton John concert sold out in just thirty minutes yesterday. Just minutes after the 7,000 seat concert sold out, people all over local websites such as Vindy.com and WKBN.com began to post "conspiracy theories" about why they did not get tickets. Angry residents attacked Covelli Centre Director Eric Ryan and the City of Youngstown because they weren't able to snatch up tickets to the May 1st concert at the Covelli Centre. My problem is that these types of things happen all across America and people locally are acting as if it is an isolated situation that only could happen in Youngstown! My response to that is to get real.
