You know what really grinds my gears this Easter Sunday, Casual Catholics. One thing that irritates me about going to mass on Palm Sunday, Easter, and Christmas is the enormous number of Casual Catholics that decide to show up for the holiest days of the year. How can these individuals find the time to go to mass on the holiest days in the church calendar, but they can't find time the other 50 weekends of the year to go to mass?

Since I attend mass each week, I have a pretty good idea of who are the practicing Catholics and who are the ones that only attend mass on the three days mentioned above. I'd go out and say 30-35% of those at mass this morning were of the casual variety. They come in and take up the pews and force those that actually do attend mass each week to stand for an entire hour. Am I the only wrong that sees something wrong there?

Another thing that I can't understand is how parents can send their children to CCD every Sunday, but they do not even attend the 8:30am mass before CCD or the 11am mass after CCD. Do you think you are doing the right thing by simply sending your kid(s) to CCD to learn about God? Do you see anything wrong with this picture: Drop kid(s) off at 9:30am for CCD, come back at 11am to pick up kid(s), do not attend mass?

If you're a true Catholic in my eyes, you have the responsibility to attend mass each week. If you can find an hour and a half of time to drop your kid off and then pick them up from CCD, then you definitely have the time to attend mass. Think of the suffering Jesus had to go through before he was crucified, and you can't sacrifice one hour each Saturday or Sunday to pray?

Maybe I am overreacting here, but I honestly think these 'casual' members of the Catholic Church can sacrifice one hour a weekend to pray to God. Let's see if they hear my call!
